Robert R. Vetter, '49

Bob Vetter, 73, of Westwood Hills, Kan., died at home on July 3, 2004. He was born Aug. 27, 1930, in Independence, Mo. He was the son of Robert and Marta (Riecker) Vetter. He graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1947 and was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in engineering.

Bob joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1952 and was honorably discharged in 1954.

He worked as an engineer at MacDonnell Aircraft and later at Westinghouse Electric Corp. He then was a vice president at Stephens and Associates and later acted as a consultant for Labconco and Medical Positioning. He belonged to many social and engineering fraternities.

Bob was an avid reader and car buff, and had a passion for his profession. He earned his Professional Engineers Designation on Aug. 1, 1962.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Barbara Vetter; son, Eric Vetter, of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter, Karen Hargrave, and her husband, Robert, of Hayes, Va.; grandchildren Robert and Stephen Hargrave and Chloe Vetter; and brother, Jack W. Vetter, of Westwood, Kan.
